- the day where my baby and I experienced our very first road accident together.
We went to watch Dead Silence in Causeway Point. The movie started at 8.40pm. Firstly, the movie is damn great. Secondly, I am having doubts on my dolls. Hah. The movie is nicely taken. I suppose that sentence would be an understatement. You've got to see it in order to really know what I am talking about. So after a 90 minutes of grabbing my baby's t-shirt and hiding my face behind his shoulder, I decided to take cab with him to Jurong West. My parents were in Ashwin's house and my baby's house is just walking distance from there. We were in the cab seated all comfortably and we reached Jalan Bahar. My mom called to ask where I am, so that the kids and my dad could come down to fetch. I told her where I am and hung up.
All the while I was seated sideways and my legs were resting on my baby's leg. I hope you guys get the picture. When I reached Jurong, I seated up straight and we both were talking about the movie and stuff. We were near the Jurong Police Headquarters where the traffic light turned amber. I was like thinking, " Aiyah, why couldn't he have just sped up."
I realized that there was a police car on the right, waiting to make a turn. I turned to my left and there was a group of indian guys with a girl waiting to cross the road. Let me repeat again, I was talking to my boyfriend, seated upright, the cab slowed down in amber and stopped at the traffic light. So far, ok?
Then, the turning signal appeared and the police car also turned and went out of sight and it was then. That moment. There was this big bang at the back of the car and my boyfriend and I jerked forward and quickly bent down. We heard glass shatter and we had no idea what that bang was and where it came from. My heart was thumping, the taxi driver's things were at the rear seat, even his sunglasses was near my boyfriend's feet. For a moment I thought, this is it. I thought there was something going to bang me at the sides and all. Suddenly, the group of indian
guys came towards the taxi and tried opening my door. But it couldn't be open. Both rear seat doors were jammed due to the impact. My boyfriend's specs was missing and he couldn't see a thing. Lets just say he is as close to blindness without his specs.
I tried opening but the guy said our door is locked. Then another indian guy came and forced opened my door. Thank god, the door on my side opened. I couldn't even walk properly. My whole body was trembling from the impact. My boyfriend was still in the taxi finding for his specs. Its when I went to the traffic junction and looked at the whole accident and realized, it was this damn bloody lorry which hit us.
My baby looked badly shaken as well and he was giving his particulars to the driver. The taxi driver was very nice. He asked us if we were ok and even apologized to us though it wasn't his fault. Even the indian group, they asked us if we were ok and left shortly. Then, it was a string of calls made to the police and my parents. The lorry driver got down, made some phone calls and within 5 minutes, i assume, his relatives arrived. After a while, my dad, Rajan uncle, the police and the ambulance arrived. They took down our particulars and the paramedics just came to check if we were alright.
After all these time has past, my baby's specs still wasn't found. After 3 times of thorough search made by the taxi driver and the policeman, we finally found his specs. And, it was then that he saw the impact. While I went in to the ambulance to get my blood pressure checked, I heard the paramedic tell that the lorry driver had drank and I suppose he had failed the breath analyzer test.
That was one helluva experience man. We were still shaken by the incident. We went to Rajan uncle's house, washed our legs, drank water, prayed and left nearly 1am. My baby left earlier.
Looking bad, thank god I wasn't seated in my earlier position, I would probably be under the
seat and luckily I wasn't pregnant. Now, taking cab would never be the same for me and my baby.
My taxi was actually right infront of the lorry, but because the lorry banged the boot, the taxi jerked right past the pedestrian crossing. So you can imagine the impact.
